‘Thirst’ captures a moment of contemplation and revelation. The playful nature of these paintings engages simultaneously with the serious and the absurd.
Each painting is set in an environment that reveals the subject’s innermost wishes and anxieties. These are populated with symbolic objects, which are ‘tells’ to the individual’s idiosyncrasies. While the paintings have a surreal, dream-like quality, what is revealed is more enduring and embedded. They are inseparable aspects of the whole person. These egos manifest themselves in ways that are poignant, comic, and occasionally, even, deeply moving.
